I actually have a partial head cannon forming that goes along the line of the changeling meeting Cranky on the earlier adventures.
(This part is far more uncertain)
7.A Just ended up so moved by the idea of devotion and honest meaningful relationships that they showed themselves to Cranky?
7.B Once they learned of Matilda and such they would be in position to easily access the large amount of stored love. If this information got back to the hive the changeling could end up under considerable pressure to “go for the kill”. But this would mean the Changeling would have to betray their new friend trust in an exceptionally hurtful way.
So pressured by the hive and doing just what they had “always done” anyways they set up a falsified meeting but as Cranky starts pouring his love into them (maybe even mentioning how grateful they are to the changeling’s other identity) the changeling just can’t take it any more and comes clean and possibly leaves the hive?
Not that I agree, but whatever. I’m replying too much now, so I’m gonna go.

Bee and ant biology does not translate to changeling biology.
You can headcanon that it does, if you really want to, but personally I’d disagree. I’d be more inclined to agree with the possibility that they are all both genders, or have no gender, or maybe just have both genders in the normal way.
I’m not. Just pointing out biology. (Bee and ant females are all sterile; males live for only a day or two each.)

Come on guys, the only thing insectoid about them is their wings and eyes. They’re far more pony than insect. In any case I’m sure if the animators wanted a female changeling, they’d just add eyelashes. We just haven’t seen any yet.
Or they are all both.
