Maybe it was not as much bravery as it was desperation. Perhaps he hungry and a bit week, to the point of being unable to hold a different from, and noticed a sea serpent and figured he could sit in the back and feed off the ambient love.
 
Or, like others have said, he could be one of Cranky’s friends during his adventuring days.
 
Or perhaps he just wanted to see a regular wedding without the sudden magical deportation.
 
This could lead to a number of interesting stories.

We seriously need a story for that changeling. I mean, after Canterlot, how brave does he have to be to come to a wedding attended by three princesses and the captain of the guard?

Maybe this is exactly the kind of discussion Larson intended to generate by including this? Maybe that’s the whole point in the first place? Not to provide some definitive answer, but instead to leave loose ends for the fandom to explore?
