Missiles may have long range, but jets are freaking fast. Dogfights aren’t totally gone, it’s just we only typically go against air forces where the other guys have no freaking idea what they are doing. In the Gulf War, those guys didn’t even seem to know about corner speed. A freaking Battlefield 3 or 4 pilot can tell you about corner speed!
 
But yeah, turning engagements aren’t entirely a thing of the past. The soviet air-to-air fighting doctrine largely hopes that they aren’t, though US air fighting doctrine tries to make them a thing of the past.
 
Again, though, missiles are fast, but so are jets. Not faster than missiles, but not much slower, either, so a long-range (beyond-visual-range) engagement doesn’t stay BVR for very long.
 
It’s just a matter of if they can survive a volley or two of missiles.

Well maybe if it lasts like that people can just get mad over video-games and two hours later be eating pizza together with all things resolved and no hard feelings.

In a way it is kinda sad that dogfights only exist in videogames these days. (Ace Combat Zero is my fav)  
Although we may see a drone war in about 50 - 100 years from now.

They still need people to operate and maintain those drones. You can’t automate everything–or more precisely, you shouldn’t. Every sci-fi story ever will tell you why that’s a bad idea.

The chair force should be disbanded already. Air supremacy is easily projected by unmanned drones and land-to-air missiles, making military aircraft obsolete. It’s frankly negligent that they even allow people into the cockpit these days, let alone fly.
