Same with “don’t feed them after midnight”. It’s always after the midnight of the previous day, unless it’s actually midnight.

Wikipedia: Labor Day has come to be celebrated by most Americans as the symbolic end of the summer. In high society, Labor Day is (or was) considered the last day of the year when it is fashionable to wear white.

In essence, high class would refrain from wearing white clothing until the start of either spring or summer.

In high culture (Rarity is high culture, which must be part of the joke), one is not to wear white after labor day as it is ‘out of style’. (Rarity designs clothing, which is probably part of the joke as well)
