Golden Apple is to follow AJ’s family tradition and represent Rarity’s cutie mark by referencing a rare material. Plus its also in honor of the golden apples growing a tree Celestia has as mentioned in the story.
 
Candy Cloud is because of the Pie of Pinkie Pie and that she’s a Pegasus. Pinkie admits Discord’s clouds were the basis for this.
 
And Aurora Blast, an Aurora is a rainbow that happens during twilight hours and blast is because rainbow wanted an ‘awesome’ word.

The names of the foals have been confirmed of chapter five. Golden Apple is the Unicorn (Rarity+Applejack), Aurora Blast is the Unicorn Pegasus (Twilight Sparkle+Rainbow Dash), and Candy Cloud is the Pegasus (Fluttershy+Pinkie Pie)
 
I think a tag for this fanfic and the names of the foals would be appropriate.

^If you read the story, you’ll know that the “kids” are actually magical fusions of both “parents”, so in this case it makes sense that the Dash-Twilight cross foal would be both a unicorn and a pegasus.

Why wouldn’t they work? Did the show give a detailed explanation of pony biology when I wasn’t looking?

Why has TwiDash’s daughter got a horn and wings? should just be one of the other, hell neither would work as well.

Hmm, because these are the mane 6’s offspring, I think their names should be added to the tags, though if anyone disagrees I guess feel free to remove.
