I’ve always assumed the staff didn’t get the memo, or rather didn’t keep the memos from when Faust was still the boss. You can only care about a kids’ show so much… Like really, really much as opposed to DC cartoons which is universally much. :)

Hundreds can be still singular, as in 101 could be called “hundreds”. If ponyville is say about 105 years old “hundreds” would be the correct word. Granny Smith could have been around for its founding at near maturity say 15 or so and still be within a fairly reasonable lifespan of about 120 years, but obviously very old, as indicated by her appearance. This might still indicate a slightly lengthened lifespan, but there’s really almost no evidence for living for centuries within the overall setting.

Maybe she means that EARTH PONIES have never used magic for Winter Wrap-Up. Also, Ponyville was founded by Earth ponies and later inhabited by pegasi and unicorns, so it makes sense that nearly all the old ponies are Earth ponies.

Another thing that makes sense with this idea, the alicorns are supposed to posses the abilities of all three types of ponies.

I think Granny Smith was unwittingly granted an unnaturally long lifespan by her experiments with zap apples.
