This leads to an interesting theory: Is this the REAL Queen Chrysalis they’re talking to, or a minion who has taken her form while she has escaped?

Exactly! Chrysalis is evil for a noble reason and while it would be awesome (in my opinion) to see her make peace with Equestria, I can see her usually being grouchy and snarky with other ponies that aren’t her changelings.
I can’t believe I have to quote Megas XLR but “I may not be the best guy…But I sure ain’t no bad guy!”
chrysalis isn’t nice, She may never be nice, but even a jerk can be a good guy Once there head gets screwed on straight
Because sympathizing with evil is what separate good guys from bad
But sympathy is not the same as acceptance and the heroes should always be careful not to let their sympathies blind them to the dangers the villain represents no matter how pitiful they may seem
Chrysalis isn’t truly evil, her need and obligation to feed her subjects puts her in somewhat of a morally-gray zone. She’s not unapologetically evil, like Sombra or Tirek. And people should be able to interpret her character any way they want. I personally like her better when she’s portrayed more cutely.
My hopes aren’t up. But I wouldn’t mind being proven wrong.
Surely, this issue should be an earnest attempt to change that a little?
Yeah, thanks for bringing up the fact that IDW’s characterization of Chrysalis is a pile of depthless garbage.

The characters didn’t know Chrysalis was starving herself though. They were surprised to see it.
All they wanted was to make sure she remained imprisioned where she couldn’t pose a threat to Equestria.
Because she seems to be starving herself out of spite in what is a very long-planned imprisonment, which activates some amount of pity?
She doesn’t have to be a woobie to get some sympathy, however evil she is.
or you think she is.Look, I love Chrysalis too, but you need to keep in mind, this isn’t the woobie crybaby version of her you see in countless fanfics. This is an evil tyrant who has tried to invade Equestria twice and committed GENOCIDE of the love-cats in her arc.
I like Chrysalis because I appreciate what a truly vile, evil villain she is, not because she’s everyone’ “waifu” who “just needs a hug”. She’s so much of a threat, she HAS to be incapacitated so she doesn’t destroy any more innocent lives.
The only thing she’s eating is spite.
