Yeah. The story felt really weak. It seems something a bit too mild to banish someone over. I really wish they gave them a far more sinister origin.
I mean, clearly one can’t be using mind control magic on thousands of ponies at a time, but I wish they also caused a lot more trouble to deserve banishment.

They’re sirens dude. The entire point of sirens is that their voices control people to want them. Though usually more in a subduction way, but the point is still there.
Maybe they got worse after their exile? With what we’ve been shown here, they seem more petty and shallow than would-be world-rulers.
Of course they’re evil! Didn’t you hear them repeat their evil plans 3 times during the first 15 minutes of the movie?
I’m beginning to wonder if they were really as bad as the movie made them out to be.
