Doesn’t stop most of them from being hypocrites, enjoying the tabloids only to be shocked when it’s their turn.
To be fair some of it wasn’t lies/gossip. It was implied mayor Mare does dye her hair for example.
Rarity got it the worst when her own li’l sister printed her personal diary, and even insultingly called it the “drama-queen diaries.” Rarity being the proper-lady she is surprisingly handled it better then the others, and just gave Sweetie a stern talking to, rather then shun/hate her & the CMC like others did.
The others shunning the CMC was teaching them that it’s a bad thing. Spread lies about a person, and they stop wanting to spend time with you. They learned through cause and effect, same way you learn not to play with fire after it burns you.
As for the others reading the paper, they didn’t know it was full of lies. All they did was read interesting bits of trivia about other people in their town.

Except that CMCs only kept writing because everypony liked the newspaper and pretty much showed CMCs that they are doing a good thing. And why didn’t anypony want to explain to CMCs why did they do wrong? Maybe because everypony deosn’t want to recognize that it was their own fault to read newspaper and CMCs didn’t know better than do what everypony liked them to do?
And Big Mac yelled at them.
Plus, despite Spike being mad at the CMC, Twi’ didn’t even act as coldly to them as the other characters did. (Especially, Rainbow Dash who practically tortured them with rainclouds.)
Agreed. The CMC spread lies around so Twilight kept them from coming into the library. That doesn’t really seem like a jerk move to me.
Creating a barrier so people who spied on you and slandered your name can’t spy on you and slander your name doesn’t make you a stuck-up jerk.
These are just the sins I liked.
