The weapon customization was one of my favorite parts of it.  
The AI is just usually not as good as a human player. And you can’t give it instructions like you can with a person.  
The story might have been a play on cliches. I could be wrong. I did enjoy the banter though. Personally, I was glad they did what they did with the choice system/story. It was an action-packed adventure, and it allowed the player to re-play it without having it feel like it’s just repeating the same story when you went to choose the alternate story segments on the next play-throughs.  
I never cared for ‘collectibles’ after the PS2 era, so that didn’t bug me. Besides that, they were just glass cats. Is there really something that bad about it?

Okay the AI is fine weapon customization is interesting and it provides a cinematic experience, however it has a crap story a lame villain an ending that is shameful to any gamer and some of the weirdest collectables ever. Shooting cat’s, really? I might rent it but it’s unlikely, sorry.

Not sure if it’s possible, but if the servers are still up, you could try to find someone to co-op with online. There might even be a site somewhere that you could find someone to message and request to play with them.  
If all else fails, there’s no one that you could invite over to play with you?

I urge you to get the 2nd one (40th Day). It’s massively better than the first one. And if you can get a friend to play with you, it’s a whole lot better.
