sedentary small friendly dragons who are the absolute contrary to what the show established.

I guess you never heard of Spike.

The comics does in fact point out that, just like Spike, the dragons in the town aren’t like the ones in Dragon Quest.

Forget it Jack: it’s Dragontown.
Starlight Storm

I might be able to take this answer, but I still Call bull on this. It’s not like the Diamond Dogs, whom we had little knowledge about, and the portrayal of their civilization retained the key Elements of the ones shown in the show but also enough reasons to say “Those were rebels”.
Here the show has build up a lore about dragons living in solitary, being feared by ponies, grow into large beast with the power of their greed, being jerks, etc. And Suddenly we get a city full of sedentary small friendly dragons who are the absolute contrary to what the show established.
I’m yet to read the comic and I REAAALLY hope the Story is at least good, because the setup contradicts the show in a lots of ways. (although you can see them as separate continuities And Save a lot of troubles)

Pretty much my feelings regarding this issue. Sort of like Shining Armor’s character in the comics; deviated from the show, but it is what it is.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@dynamicv
It seems to be very well established for something less than a few years old. Heck their are more than a few people who say the entire show has only been about a year of actually time passage.

Again, this isn’t bad, just doesn’t work with show canon. Not the first thing like it in the comics, won’t be the last.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I will also reiterate that just because this doesn’t jive with show canon doesn’t make in necessarily bad, just not compatible with what little we’ve seen of dragons.

Can someone please indicate to me some proof that this dragon settlement existed during the events of Dragon Quest?

Keep in mind this comic is post-season 4.

And yet they still co-exist fairly peacefully.

Guys, the point is, Twilight Sparkle, massive nerd that she is, could find not a single piece of useful dragon information, because no one wants to study gigantic, angry, fire-breathing monsters that eat ponies. That makes sense.

Except we have a settlement of nice dragons, maybe not super friendly, but no giant or rampaging. Twilight would have at least found some reference to their existence, and presumably someone else would have been curious, or even flat out told to do so because such information would be useful, about what makes dragons tick.

@Masem
I honestly don’t have much problems with it, other than just recognizing there are problems with show-comic consistency. If they plan to retcon or just somehow justify all the characters being unaware for reasons, so be it. If I think there are discrepancies, I just point them out without any ill intentions.

They don’t have to be throwing mixers, the fact they exist in close proximity to ponies and seem to not be rampaging monster should be enough for at least one aspiring academic to decide to actually do some research on a sentient species.

Not just a sibling, but a “big brother best friend forever”. And a babysitting princess who she also considered a close friend, as well.

There is evidence in the comic that ponies hated/feared the dragons even before the fires started.

i do think however that we can determine that these dargons are a minority. msot of dragon kind is the kind that live in the wild……

also i would say the dragons kinda earn being jackasses. they have to live in the wild with stone alligators, sand worms, and stellar ursine.

And their is absolutely nothing suggesting that the dragons in dragon town being nice isn’t public knowledge. They’re fire breathing creatures, questioning them when unexplained fires isn’t exactly unreasonable.

@Masem: “What this presents is far from a ‘clean’ answer, but its a workable answer. It’s very easy to nitpick apart, about as much as other show-canon elements from episode to episode.” <- This guy gets it.

@candrew
I’m not really seeing where he says there was a lot of socialization and interaction between the two species; the dragons being friendly with a police pony who worked in their neighborhood is not exactly concrete proof that there were mixed dragon-pony block parties or the like.

yeah, but in the show they never said something like “Twilight doesnt have siblings”, unlike this one where they said “we dont know nothing about dragons because they are scary and too big”

There’s a good enough explanation to make it work fine in my own headcanon (and accepting that the comic and show are two different things). It would have been nice to have just a bit more (“Oh, its only been in the last few years”…) to iron out rough parts, and there are aspects that nag but they exist in the show too (eg no information on raising dragons, but they have enough to know about dragon migration patterns, etc.)

Or basically: MST Mantra works here - it helps to set the stage for a decent story and for possible world building in future.

And in this very panel, the police pony says they were very friendly until this very recent problem started. This makes no sense in regards to what little canon there is involving dragons. Not that matters mind you, but to see people try and say in doesn’t contradict the show is a bit puzzling.

In the comic the dragons are blamed for everything bad in the city and ponies avoid going into Dragon Town. I’d say they are still scared of them.

Yeah, but never mentioned any lore on diamond dogs for there to be too much of an issue.
GekkanShounen

@dynamicv
It does when the show said supposedly dragons are so scary no pony ever had the guts to talk to them to the point no worthwhile info about them was available. Except for the apparently rather friendly batch of dragons in this comic. They’re like Shining Armor in their sudden existence.
