…with many villains reformed and accepted by Twilight Sparkle, I am sure she can accept these ponies. Besides, there’s nothing wrong with them. It was said so many times, but… Everypony can be friends with each other. The closest associaton is literally the old ponies and the new, like it is in the family. And sometimes even in the family there’s misunderstandings of some sort.
I understand these mane six is the versions some see. Probably, the only true mane six are what the creator herself sees them. And possibly, we’ll never know how she sees them in full.
(not being obvious: not everyone can agree and think that any of the cartoons including ‘Newborn cuties’ was bad because the opinions differ)
“Nothing more pathetic than bronies trying to look cool.”
Well, if you like MLP, and it’s previous gen’s, you’re really no “better” then a brony, at this point.
That, hater-bias aside… I do kinda agree with some of your points on previous gen’s, the problem was to little personality for the characters back then. (And sometimes the show focused more on the human characters. A problem “Transformers” occasionally has, like with the movies.)
Still, the G1 show had some of the 1980s cartoon “edgeyness,” >>46467>>421289 as a kid I always prefered kid shows/movies that were both cute, but dark, as well. If things are always portrayed to “cute,” it can give kids a rather naive outlook on the real world.
But at the same time, being to “dark,” can cloud that, as well. I think both G1 & G4 MLP do a good job balancing the light with the dark.
Nothing more pathetic than bronies trying to look cool.
I watched G1 when I was young, and it was okay, for its time. Like other 80’s cartoons, it hasn’t aged well (except for some 80’s cartoons that are still hilarious because of their cheesiness, like Super Mario Bros. Super Show). I watched some stuff of other Gens after I got into G4, but I can’t get myself to like it, apart from bits and pieces here and there. Like the “Boys, Boys, Boys” song makes me laugh and it’s kinda cute. And I like G3’s art style (not G3.5’s) in a way, they look cute from time to time, and the intro song is better than G4’s, in my opinion. But for all these earlier Gens, the problem for me is that the characters have too little personalization. They don’t feel like individuals, when I look at pony X from a previous Gen and pony Y, the only thing that would differentiate them is that one likes to play sports and the other likes sweets, or something. But their PERSONALITY is just too bland. That’s why I can’t get into them, even if it’s just slice of life like G4 can also be.
Funny thing is, I could see these groups finding a couple things in common once they got over the character-design gap…which, granted, might take about half an episode. Perhaps G4 Pie’s just gasping in horror at the void-tween-worlds enabling this crossover. Ah, and Current Spike can stop acting like he’s never been sucked into a musical number.
