Big reason I ship it is Comet Tail’s cutie mark says “Astronomer” to me. So basically all of what you said, but then add to that him being an astrophysicist, and you get a match made in Equestria ;p
I still ship it. Flash Sentry is a chud and their relationship was nothing but awkward teen movie infatuation. Comet has a blank slate with which many a fanfic writer has painted an all-around decent guy who makes Twi feel at ease with her everyday struggles, and I like that headcanon.
