Doesn’t really help that ships are designed to avoid getting hit instead of slugging it out with each other.

Yeah, I know what you mean. It always seemed to me that ships got really boring after Battleships left.

Nelson and Rodney had some durability problems due to too many holes in the strength deck, too close to each other. Outside of life-or-death battles against other battleships, they couldn’t fire C-turret, because all nine guns going off that close to the bridge cracked the structural beams, windows, and unarmored skin of the superstructure. But while they held up, and when they had to be, they were among the most powerful ships in the world. Only US and Japanese designs a decade or more newer significantly outclassed them.
 
Time was their main enemy. By the end of WWII, both ships were so structurally fatigued that Nelson only saw active duty for nine more months before being retired for use as a training ship, and even in that role she only lasted another 14 months. Rodney was put into reserve just 2 months after WWII ended. Both were broken up for scrap in 1948.

Damn do I love Battleships, it’s a shame they’re obsolete. Something about those cannons.

I imagine a battleship named after Sombra would be like the Bismark or the Tirpitz. Not the greatest ever but they both did intimidate the British a whole lot.
