Ah, but would she chose to do so? Remember She was once Nightmare Moon, and assuming the rebellion happens a few months after the longest night. She could still harbor ambitions of absolute rule. Plus if the comics are canon there is still the chance of being possessed once more by the Nightmare.

Give the legislation and laws to a parliament and make Luna the head of state.

In all honesty, the concept itself is sound, yet there is one very important question if she wins. Why should they support her once they topple the empire? If one immortal tyrant being has caused so much grief, why then should they keep her in power? It is more likely that people would dispose of her soon enough.
 
I believe that there are actually faction within both sides of the conflict that don’t care for them should they win. It is likely that said people only joined them for either peace or freedom. So why not keep up the revolution and be totally free? It actually sounds like something out of the French Revolution would come about.

I think you have that in reverse their Pockoo. Cele’ was the One who overthrew Luna… The rest is… Or was her Story. We never really got to hear Lunas side of it.
 
Besides What does Star Wars on the whole have to do with the canon Story anyway? In the Star War-verse Luna is the Good Guy in this, and Cele’ and Twilight are EVIL!

It’s all, “Hey, everypony, it’s me, Nightmare Moon your beloved Princess Luna! (Yeah, that’s the ticket!) Forget my stated genocidal intentions – ‘cause, you know, eternal night would effectively end photosynthesis and therefore collapse the entire food chain from the bottom up – and rise up with me against the hated tyrant who makes you clean your room and do your homework! We’re gonna a make a new government, with hookers and blackjack!”
 
And Nightmare Luna is immediately declared the undisputed sole ruler of this new government with no elected representatives, and they call it a “republic”. They only way that would be acceptable is if they were shown as the bad guys and the name was a comment on places like the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (which is only one of those four things). Like I said, it’s a stupid concept, but there’s a subset of the fandom that won’t stop playing with it.

I’m my head its just called the Lunar Republic, and thats that. If anything I’d liken Luna to be more like Luke then anyone else.

It could just be that it started out as a republic with a theocratically centered Senate and eventually devolved into a straight empire when Luna returned and reclaimed power. Considering Luna’s unstable nature and lack of real influence, I imagine we’d get a lot of rants about “the glory days of the great Lunar Republic.”

I don’t care about the ravings of demented fanboys about Celestia being evil, despite it being counter to canon. I do care somewhat about how they insist that their widdle Woona was just sad and misunderstood, despite what we’ve seen in the show about Nightmare Moon’s lust for power. I don’t care about that as much as I do the fact that words means things.

Can you even have a republic with a strict monarchy? I don’t recall NMM renouncing her crown or status a lawmaker.  
Unless you’re Rome, I suppose.
 
Also, if the Crystal Empire doesn’t make sense in the official canon (no emperor/empress), the Solar Empire makes even less sense.
