Because they’re annoying extremely-easy-to-make memes. Take picture, crop to size, slap together, done.

Projection is extremely common. To the point of nigh-everyone, except those who did a lot of work on themselves and can catch themselves before the act, no easy feat, has projected, is projecting, or will be projecting. So a lot of people ill in the head are doing it too.

I fully believe that ASBAR actually takes place in the head of the Joker while undergoing therapy at Arkham. It makes a lot of sense. In ASBAR, Batman is a laughing lunatic and the Joker is a humorless frowner, and if the Arkham games are any indication, Batman’s rouges gallery have a tendency to project their own flaws onto Batman. The Penguin thinks he’s just a villain with good publicity; the Riddler thinks he’s pulling the ultimate scam on the city, capturing villains so he can rob them; and the Joker thinks Batman is just one bad day away from being exactly like him.

All-Star Batman and Robin. It was another Batman comic by Frank Miller and got serious hate for its portrayal of the Dark Knight and its pretty much lackluster story.
