Also, this is probably why a High School Anime of mlp might be a pretty cheesy idea if the Main 6 end up having all their traits being rip offs of other anime characters.

L is the exact antithesis of The Element of Honesty. In an interview, the creator of the Death Note franchise was asked to sum up L as briefly as he could, and the answer given was basically “He’s a liar.”, and if “liar” is the first word your own creator can come up with to describe you, then you probably aren’t much of an honest person.

Having watched both versions of FMA, I’d say Kindness is a better fit for Ed than one would think. Short temper nonwithstanding, he’s a good guy through and through, and always does the right thing and helps people.

Loyalty: Natsu Dragneel/Monkey D. Luffy  
Magic: Nanoha Takamachi  
Kindness: Tohka Yatogami  
Honesty: Para/Dox  
Generosity: Shido Itsuka  
Laughter: Kid Buu (So sue me!)

Why is Sakura flipping us off?

Naruto would be Loyalty. That show is almost more about friendship than MLP. His relationship with Sasuke makes him the loyalist character I’ve ever known.
 
Joseph Joestar for Laughter. He has fun with friends and enemies alike. His introduction to Santana shows off his attitude well.
 
Kindness goes to Goku. His entire life is about fighting for the good of others. He also despises killing and only does it when he has to. Being too kind is something his enemies often accuse him of.
 
Honesty is probably Luffy. I’ve not seen a lot of One Piece but Luffy’s pretty blunt. He can come off as quite a jerk, but everything is done for the right reason, and does more good in the end.
 
Generosity, Sailor Moon. Usagi has a huge disadvantage compared to everyone else here when she fights in battle. She takes a bigger risk as she’s really not a fighter, but she does it anyway to protect others. Genirosity is a hard one, but someone described it as being more self-sacrificing than kindness. That sounds like it fits here.
 
Magic… The hell does that mean? Korra the Avatar I guess. Learning all there is to about bending, and gaining allies along the way. Pretty much Twilight’s roll.

The only ones I know about are Ed and Goku, and even they seem a little misplaced. Goku is a goofball and Ed is about as kind as a rabid honeybadger.
 
Maybe Goku as Laughter and Ed as Loyalty instead?

Excuse me while I laugh uncontrollably. The only people Ed’s kind to are Al, Winry, and the Hughes family.
 
When it comes to anime-based Elements of Harmony, I’d say:  
Honesty: Kurosaki Ichigo (Bleach)  
Kindness: Tsukino Usagi (Sailor Moon)  
Laughter: Uzumaki Naruto (Naruto)  
Generosity: Kamiya Kaoru (Rurouni Kenshin)  
Loyalty: Monkey D. Luffy (One Piece)  
Magic: Takamachi Nanoha (Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha)

Honesty is the only one of these that really matches its’ listed character. The rest either don’t fit (goku, ichigo) or are characters i don’t know enough about to see how these conclusions were come to (haruhi, edward, cardcaptor)…
