As long as they stayed in place, they look fine to me the way they are.
But at least the tie is ATTACHED to something. The sleeves there are nothing but skin tight srm socks. The overall design would be better if they were ditched, Or if you HAD to keep them, make them gloves.
Sleeves for sleeves’ sake, I don’t see the problem. If we were all dressing for function alone, we’d be wearing undyed cotton and animal fur garments with no thought of appearances whatsoever.
Among other accessories, a tie serves absolutely no practical purpose, but for a tux, it’s considered completely necessary. That’s fashion for you.
My point is that of you add sleeves just for the sake of having sleeves then you’re doing some things for the wrong reasons. And I did say MOST mermaid dresses don’t have the cut.

The split and the sleeves are just there for the sake of the design, and it works perfectly well. As for the torso, I’ve seen unlikelier stuff in the movies.
