Description
For the third day of JanSparity, I decided to go slightly old-school and bought myself some nice #2 pencils and an ultrafine sharpie and drew the line work in my sketchbook. The line quality suffers a bit since I have to snap a picture with my phone to put it on my computer for coloring in Photoshop, but on the other hand I forgot how much faster drawing was with traditional pencils and ink. I did the lines in less than 30 minutes when it takes me a couple hours with my graphics tablet. Anyway, I thought it’d be sweet to sketch Spike proposing to Rarity with a ring that had a tiny Fire Ruby embedded in it.
And I suppose Tank’s on lookout with a baseball bat in his beak. It’s a no hit-and-fly zone.
He pimps. Have you seen his hat?
When you put it that way, I can see how genuine affection might circumvent those pesky psychosomatic urges. Nurture might as well trump “nature” in a ‘verse like MLP. Never did buy the instinctive polygamy angle a lot of Harem!Spike writers play either-for one thing, these are sapient magic “reptiles,” not bull gators. Don’t ask me what Gummy does with his spare time, though.
I’m not one of those people who sees actual love as being possessive, though, so I don’t go for the theory some people have that Spike falling in love will trigger his greed growth in some way, whether through “acquisition” of lovers or through being separated from them and therefore desiring them.
Point, though I can’t help seeing some potential for volatile mishaps, ’specially if circumstance separates ’em for a while. Then again, such is life in general.
Apparently, those closest to him help to reverse the effects, so I doubt it would be a big issue.

Honestly, in Spike’s shoes I’d have been wondering what the whole ‘mind-warping greed growth’ thing might mean for any(p)one he was close to. Beyond the fortunately minimal property damage from that outing, anyhow. Then again, I do brood.
Or ended much better.
That noted, gotta wonder whether Rarity or Spike would really want another reminder of the Birthday Incident(R). I’m thinking Luna might’ve needed to walk ‘em through a nightmare or three where his King Kong stint didn’t end quite so well.
