Oh, how interesting! I have learned a new word.
But – as with the point this comic is making – the benefits of vaccines to any random recipient immensely outweigh the risks.
More importantly, the public health benefits only accrue to the public if a high percentage of people get vaccinated: this is ‘herd immunity,’ which occurs when people who can’t get the vaccine or for whom it doesn’t take (a small percentage with any vaccine) remain protected simply because the people around them are vaccinated and don’t have the disease to give them. People who avoid vaccination are thus harming not only themselves but the public at large.
Measles and whooping cough are making a comeback in my country now because people are starting to refuse to vaccinate their kids.
Just an infrequent word, epidemic animal disease.
I’m on the fence with Anti Vaccine, and pro vaccine. The fact of the matter is yes vaccines help, but its also fact that vaccines contain many things that are unnecessary, and can in small cases be more dangerous than the disease itself.
I can see points on both sides.
Note to umneem: epizooty? Epidemic, I think you mean.
