Kinda ironic to be saying that I’m “thin-skinned,” considering I’m usually the one on the site speaking out against overly-political-correct types, and such. Maybe I just don’t understand 4Chan “culture.”
It’s not just 4Chan though, a relative of mine was using the word “Jew” in that kinda “insulting” context, and it kinda annoyed me honestly. Don’t know if he was a 4Channer though.
I was there when threads began spreading like wildfire on /b/ back when it started. Even on /b/ when someone posted something pornographic of the pones it was met with negativity and even people who liked it said it felt kinda wrong. I remember the kloudmutt images he’s talking about being posted and people feeling weird about them. There was this attitude that the ponies were “pure” back then. Things were a lot different back then. “Love and Tolerate” was just an anti troll/ reverse troll tactic used by the /b/ronies, not some mantra of nicety as some think it is today.
@Beau Skunky
I dont mean this as an insult but you seem a bit thin skinned honestly.
A thing you need to remember is that 4chan has people from all different cultures around the world, and also has its own culture and communities. You should try to keep that in mind while on the internet, as phrases like “went/gone full jew” and the word “fag” for example have different meanings and connotations within these cultures.
I’ve never really been active in the “furry fandom,” but I do like some anthropomorphic fanart, even MLP anthro’ art. (Ironically, I used to not like MLP anthro’ art much, sense there used to be hardly any good ones back in the early days.)
Not into the pr0n though, (a li’l risque’ is fine though) but I think it’s a silly thing for people to get so defensive/touchy over, and such.
@PonyPon
To be honest, I get a li’l annoyed when someone says you’re a “furry” if you so much as like TMNT, Sonic, Looney Tunes, Star Fox 64, or something…
Nothing against the furry fanbase, mind you, it just feels unfair to label people like that. (I even considered changing my screen-name on DA due to that.)
“when the fandom vehemently hated porn”
“many were still not happy that they were being sexualized”
Yeah, I find this really hard to believe. Can’t really say I’m an old-timer, having become semi-active the fandom in August 2011, but from the first moment I started reading and posting on pony fan sites, any criticism of porn that went beyond “it’s not my cup of tea, but it doesn’t bother me if others like it” was immediately greeted with heated replies charging the complainer with attempted censorship, as well as claims that Lauren Faust was OK with the porn and that the people working on the show had no right to get upset with it, anyway. But I suppose it’s possible that in the first few months after the fandom started spreading from the pure-hearted 4chan to infamous bastions of perversion like Equestria Daily, Ponychan, and deviantArt, the culture changed from being hostile towards sexualizing ponies to being hostile towards anyone criticizing the sexualization of ponies.
The connection is about as strong as the one furries have with the Loony tune and Pokémon fans
Most of the “bronies” would say that the “furries” are only in it for money/fame a lot of the time.
You can’t deny how interconnected they are, though.
