Description
Friends Forever 11 had Rainbow acting as substitute mail pony. The joke had to be made by someone.

Keep the shitty attitude and comments to yourself next time, thanks.
Does it really matter? (The MLP comic probably won’t even be around in 10 years.)
If you’re free to hate it, then I’m free to like it. No amount of some random person telling me how much it “sucks” is going to change that.
It’s not the kind of art you’ll enjoy in 10 years, though.
Dude, just ‘cause I like an artist, and their art-style while you don’t, doesn’t mean I don’t have “standards.”
If this artist “sucks” for not drawing 100% on-model to the show, (which I find boring personally when they do) then so do almost every fanartist then.
It doesn’t deserve a better critique than “it’s horrible and shitty”. Raise your standards.
Actually, I’d refrain from assuming the majority of people on this site feel that way, on other images of the issue, I recall many fans were praising the artwork. In fact, I like the art style so much, I actually remarked on another pic I think G5 MLP should look like this. ;)
Though, yeah people could give better negative critique besides, “ZOMG it’s horrible/shitty!”
Oh, and relevant to the image: I came here to complain that Rainbow Dash’s eyes don’t look derped in this image, only to discover it’s a reference to her being a substitute mailmare. Nice use of that particular quote, and to be honest, RD’s pose and expression here would be fitting for Derpy, as well.
The backgrounds not fitting in with the show’s style does bother me somewhat, but that seems more a function of the artist not being provided appropriate reference material. It’d be nice if he was familiar enough with the show to truly grok its setting, but given its slow modernization as time has gone on I can’t blame him too much.
I agree with the second point. It’s always interesting see the different artstyles that MLP artists do as you can easily recognise them, not to mention they look gorgeous most of the time.

Personally, I liked the art style, and artist. It was actually nice to see a different art style in the comic. I also enjoyed the facial expressions, and slightly more cartoony look he gave the characters. Which is a style you don’t see much with the ponies whether official, or fan-made.
Even other artists like Andy Price go a li’l off-model sometimes, but frankly I find that a good thing.
Honestly, I’d get bored if all the artists drew the art for the comic 100% like the show all the time. (Same goes for fanart. I’d rather people have their own style, then just copy the show’s Lauren Faust art style.)
Well, it is a matter of personal taste, I suppose…
The writing was awesome, definitely. The art was not.
I think it might have looked a bit better for the CMC. But definitely not for any character in the adult style.
Yeah, I like the usual art style of the comics, sort of a stylized bit that translates the character designs fairly well. This comic though…

Apparently the artist has never drawn a pony comic before and wasn’t given much reference material. It shows.
I agree with this. Wasn’t a fan of the first issue style either. Usually the comics look really nice (for all series that is)
This issue does, yeah. I’m not sure if it’s deliberate, but they’re drawn in an almost chibi style that really does not work.
