DAY 3 - Friends
Apple Bloom had asked her fellow crusaders to leave Diamond Tiara be for the first two days, just so she could get herself situated on the farm.
Those two days had passed, and as much as Sweetie and Scootaloo weren’t looking forward to it, they were going to have to spend their time with the one pony responsible for most of their misery.
But they’d already decided to not let that little detail stop them from having fun, as Scootaloo sped through Ponyville with her newest passenger screaming in terror for the duration of the ride.
“Oh lighten up! You’re acting like you’ve never done anything exciting before!” The pegasus yelled back to the terrified earth pony in the wagon.
“Of course not! I kind of value my safety more!”
“You’re lucky Apple Bloom asked us to not do the more dangerous stuff we had on our cutie mark list with you.”
“Well okay. So what are we doing?”
“CUTIE MARK CRUSADERS TRACK AND FIELD ATHLETES!”
If Sweetie had actually been paying attention she would have seen how “thrilled” the pink pony was at the prospect of more physical activity after the two days she had spent trying to do farmwork.

‘Bi-weekly Summer Spa Day w/ Silvie on Tuesday. DO NOT SKIP IT!’
It was the only thing the note that Diamond had left for Apple Bloom said.
After several interrupted attempts to explain to the spa twins about how she was taking Diamond’s spot in her usual appointment, Apple Bloom walked in and found the bespectacled filly impatiently waiting.
It wasn’t until the two were alone in the sauna that Apple Bloom felt comfortable enough to speak up.
“Sorry ‘bout bein’ late.”
“Diamond forgot to tell them?”
“How did-?”
“Her forgetting something like that doesn’t surprise me. Take my word for it. Ever wonder why you hardly see us together during the summer? She’s busier than you’d think.” a look of confusion now occupied Apple Bloom’s face, as Silver Spoon was up on her hind legs and holding her forehooves out together expectantly.
It took the Apple filly a few seconds before it clicked in her head. “Um… Silver Spoon, ah don’t think it’s right fer me to do the ‘Bump. Bump. Sugar Lump Rump.’ with ya’ll instead of Dahmond. She’s your friend, and that’s somethin’ special between you two, an’ ah wouldn’t want to take that away from ya.”
“Oh… okay. I suppose that’s a good point now that you mention it.”
“Hey, mind if I ask yah something? Why follow her anyway? Ah’ve heard plenty of the other foals say that you aren’t nearly as bad when yer alone, but then yah go out of yer way to match her level whenever she’s nearby.”
“Because she was the only pony to ever stick their neck out for me.” “*sigh* This was before Diamond and I moved to Ponyville with our families…”
Yeah, it seems to be trying to redeem them both, (and perhaps show Applebloom that “rich life” isn’t so easy either, judging from the last picture) I just think it seems a bit cliche’, and favorable that people always have Spoon be the more sympathetic/friendlier one, and such.
To be fair, the compliment to Pinkie Pie was kind of backhanded (hooved?). But I can see where you’re coming from. I think this series of pics/stories are pushing for redeeming them both in a fashion, just DT more so since she’s a focus thus requiring SS to get some quicker development while she’s in.

Though, in regards to the li’l mini-story, (in the description here, and on DA written by the artist) I never much liked the idea that Silver Spoon is always so “easily-redeemed,” or all-of-a-sudden “instantly nicer when she isn’t around Tiara” fanon much which is pretty common in most stories. While Tiara is often portrayed as irredeemable, evil, and such.
In the show Spoon’s been just as relentless as Tiara was in teasing the Crusaders, (including Scoots’ inability to fly) behaved like a snob to others just like her, and also wanted to sabotage the CMC in the “Flight to the Finish” episode so they could win the competition.
Yeah, I know she briefly applauded Granny Smith’s story in “Family Appreciation Day,” but other then that she hasn’t really even been hinted at being a “secretly nice filly,” and such. (Besides, they already kinda did that with Babs Seed.) I think it’s people are used to that kinda thing of “the sidekick not being as bad as his evil master” trope that’s common in animation.
In fact, taking some incidents like the Babs “joining the Crusaders/threatening to tattle/falling in the mud,” and losing to the CMC in “Flight to the Finish,” Spoon would likely still hold a grudge against the Crusaders for those things alone, and wouldn’t just instantly be pals with Applebloom, or them, just ‘cause Tiara isn’t there.
I’d prefer stories where they (either/both Tiara & Spoon) actually have their “heel-face-turn,” or “redemption” develop gradually, rather then be instantly reformed. Only good fanfic I read like this was “Cubic Zirconia” which has Tiara gradually becoming nicer to the CMC, while at the same time not completely losing her “spoiled rich kid” personality.
(Even Discord’s heel-face-turn took several episodes to develop, and he was much more of a problem then they were.)
Though, don’t get me wrong, I like to think it’s possible maybe they both could become nicer, (like as they get older) or perhaps have “good sides” to them, that they don’t show often. In fact, I kinda hope the show would have some more subtle hints like that.
One thing alot of people never notice about “Family Appreciation Day” is not only did Silver have a “redeeming” moment, (that i mentioned above) but Tiara kinda did to. During her Daddy’s speech, while all the other pony kids in the classroom were acting bored, falling asleep, and such (something that would normally be considered “rude” in a real classroom) Tiara was the only one in class listening with a bright chipper smile on her face, actually interested in the things he was explaining about his business admiring her Daddy. She is perhaps the only child in Ponyville who sees how “cool” he is, while other kids just see him as a boring old rich man.
So while she is a selfish-brat, it’s kinda adorable that she admires her old-man so, (Especially, if the Equestria’s best father tag is anything to go by.) and perhaps besides being a “bratty snob bully,” she has some nice qualities to. She also complimented Pinkie Pie in “Pinkie Pride.” (In song even.)
