I think they used this idea in the Real Ghostbusters cartoon, didn’t they? I could swear they mentioned it once or twice.

I noticed that Ernie seemed to be included as an afterthought. On initial viewings I forgot he was there and thought he was added for the sequel.
No doubt, Ernie Hudson did a terrific job…but the producers cut down the role dramatically when they didn’t sign a big star. Bill Murray ended up getting more scenes as a result.
I’m glad they didn’t Ernie Hudson is a better Winston.
I think I read the same article. They were originally hoping to get Eddie Murphy for the part.
