While I do agree this was obviously an attempt to nerf Twilight for this comic, its not exactly ill timed continuity wise. Season 4’s progression intentionally built up Twilight’s pressure-induced pride and denial, leading up to Sunset’s reveal in the movie where she shows Twilight that Celestia was wrong to put so much pressure on Twilight.
The high and mighty pride post- ‘Getting a gaudy-ass castle’, is something I wouldn’t bet against Twilight having and doing this.
Back when the pirate adventure was written, Twilight was more worried about helping out her friends then the small chance of dishonoring the position she was given. But during the middle of Rainbow Rocks, she stopped herself from asking Sunset for help, for the same B.S. high and mighty pride shown here at the top.
Heather: Has Twilight not take crap from anyone and zap the pirates who try to kidnap her and harm her friends, all while still keeping the deal she attempted to make with them.
Katie: Makes Twilight look like a stupid, hypocritical jerk who’s willing to let her friends and other innocent ponies get beat up because she “Doesn’t want to abuse her power” or “Hurt non-monsters”, even though she’s never showed this kind of reluctance before and probably never will again.
Cook has been more and more controversial over time, first there’s the fact she openly prefer Twilight, AJ and Rarity while shoving Fluttershy, Pinkie and especially Dash in the background, and then there’s of course Reflection, but that was almost given a pass because it’s Celestia.
But here she’s tacking THE biggest main character of the series and write her in a way that seems dumbfounding and overall INCONSIDERATE that’s never been shown before, it hurts her whole character, and there’s lots of way it could’ve been avoided.
So yeah, there’s a dynamite and a bad handling of the mane 6 is boom. Cook keep saying we shouldn’t take those seriously but she seems to forget we buy the freaking comic BECAUSE WE TAKE THEM SERIOUSLY!
Yeah, especially TRS. When the people that usually blindly praise your work start criticizing you, then you might want to heed their advice.
This is what surprised me the most.
Kinda worded that badly. But they were just being an annoyance in comparison to bulls pillaging a town.
And how are we losing our shit? This is bad writing plain and simple. And completely goes against Twilight in previous comics and the show. She also used magic against the henchmen in Power Ponies.
I mean even the people that usually defend the comic in TRS and the IDW forums are complaining about Twilight’s stupidity.
Maybe it’s not bad writing per say, but it is really inconsistent.
Actually, they wanted to kidnap her for money, but what I meant was that the pirates weren’t important enough to not zap them before the end of the story.
@armadiloeater
No, but that’s not what’s going on. It hasn’t been a day and people are already going crazy over this.
Welcome to Derpibooru.
Is pointing out the inconsistency automatically losing your shit?
Seems we can’t have discussions without it being called drama anymore.
That’s entirely up to an individual. Personally, I’m just having fun watching the drama and inserting my unneeded opinions.
It’s not worth losing one’s shit over.
Right. Thus it’s bad writing.
Actually they kinda wanted them to kidnap her.
That said, there’s also the magic used against changeling, it’s “monsters” but it’s just stunning them, not killing them, obviously doable here.
The pirates were just annoying Twilight. These guys are pillaging the town.
Aquaman shows up *Uses seizure inducing telepathy on bank robbers. “Geez, that wasnt hard at all. Wonder why Wayne sucks much and gets so much praise for doing such a shitty job at protecting Gotham. Now to go back to my kingdom under the oceans millions of pounds of pressure that i just shrug off, then go check my treasury which makes richer than the entire pantheons of the world combined, then remind the Queen not to use hydrokenisis to drain out the water outta of any human who pisses her off… again, which is in ability i can also do but choose not cause thats like kryptonite for every living thing and the JL would just expect me to keep doing that.”
Blame rig, he tags anything as drama.
>i don´t like something = add drama/dramabait tag
Welcome to derpibooru
This is also true.
>Tagged “drama” and “drama bait”
’Batman, won’t you stop those criminals robbing the bank?’
’I’m sorry, but it’s unfair for me to do something, since I am better equipped, know martial arts, am richer than God, etc. Call Aquaman, he is useless on land it will be a fair fight.’
