sometimes I look at something I’ve drawn better-than-my-usual, and I can’t picture any way of replicating the effect
despair ensues

but not only do I never have that kind of picture in my head – no platonic ideal to compare the reality of my finished work to – more often than not I’m completely oblivious to a finished work’s shortcomings, at least initially. If I wasn’t oblivious to them, I’d have re-rendered until they were fixed.
I can honestly say I’ve never felt the feel that this comic conveys.
I’m not saying this is wrong though. Everyone who loves to draw has felt this.
