what about the opposite

sometimes I look at something I’ve drawn better-than-my-usual, and I can’t picture any way of replicating the effect

I mean, I’ve felt the frustration of not being able to produce something as high of quality as I’d like

but not only do I never have that kind of picture in my head – no platonic ideal to compare the reality of my finished work to – more often than not I’m completely oblivious to a finished work’s shortcomings, at least initially. If I wasn’t oblivious to them, I’d have re-rendered until they were fixed.

I can honestly say I’ve never felt the feel that this comic conveys.

Don’t get discouraged, get better. With practice the things that frustrate you will become trivial nuances that you can convey without effort. It takes time and effort to get as good as the artists that you look up to and respect; you can get there too if you care enough to work hard on it.

I’m not saying this is wrong though. Everyone who loves to draw has felt this.

I can’t have this feel because I don’t have that kind of image in my head

the image doesn’t begin to form for me until I draw it

For me, it’s this except at panel 4, my thought bubble suddenly changes to how much work it’ll take and then I never start.
