While your gross simplifications, nitpicking and patronizing tones are getting annoying, it’s clear the thread doesn’t want more meaningless arguing here so why don’t we just stop trying to bring up an argument that’s over two months old already.
I agree wholeheartedly.
Not that, the other thing. The one where you equated homosexuality to genetically-engineered lizard people. (And fail to spell “legitimate” correctly.)
Don’t know how anyone can think prosthetic limbs being a positive contrivance of humanity is unfortunate, well one day people will have their hindsight and all our proposed directions and inclinations will be their archetypes for ignorance. For better or for worse.
That’s unfortunate.
I had to look that definition up. I assure you my comment was sincere.
One can only hope.
Hahaha! This is gold!
Are you a poe?
prosthetic limbs are a product of human science and engineering to reapply ability and momentum to those who physically lack the capability to have the full standard of range and capacity that a integral individual enjoys. It is natural for humans to better themselves with tools and implements as that is a central concept of any society that wishes to progress and advance itself. An amputee should expect that society works to give him or her the means to at least have the same physical playing field for opportunity in life as is conventional to the community.Double so if the amputee has done a service for his nation.
Prosthetic limbs aren’t “natural” either. Does that mean amputees should do without?
After all how can you argue against a group of people who feel their DNA doesn’t fit thier real “selves” so they fund and genetically enginer themselves and everyone who feels like it to become a physical “ human/lizard “ thus creating a new species of humanity . By the same logic used by all these lgtbq pride groups they have every rigth to do so. And that just one hypothetical example of how many ways peole can abuse the system being created.
Essentially by opening the door to allowing groups that are not part of the process of human reproduction you may very well get all sorts of deviant groups that evolution did not account for to be seen in society as every bit naturally legitament as normal human breeding patterns. When anyone of any race and any age can for any reason say they are something and society must in response give full respect and acceptance to that demand the effects of that social mentality could affect civilazation in way we’ve not yet seen. You can say it’s ridiculous now but so would hormone therapy and reassignment sugary have look impossible and ridiclous 80 years ago. I’ve never seen anyone on either side of the debate on this topic ever adress this inevatabity and that makes me worry that people seem not to be very aware of just how talented mankind is at screwing things up.
@TexasUberAlles
Perhaps it would be helpful to both of you to try and restate your positions, as well as trying to stay on topic and what you’re arguing against?
Your point being?
At this point, you’re so riled up in arguing against me that you’re failing to understand what I’m saying and strawmanning my position.
I’m not putting blame on them (which would mean to hold them morally accountable for it), and I’m not suggesting it’s because it’s “trendy.” It’s not a conscious decision on their part. I’m saying that things like this can cause people to question their own sexuality when they otherwise wouldn’t have, which leads to that emotional turmoil.
Okay. I said nothing about the cause of those facts, yet you took my statements as racist and bigoted because you added meaning to my words which was never stated nor intended. In fact, all your reply here does is agree with my point, and add reasons for it. You assumed that I somehow meant those statements to demean or belittle those groups. I didn’t. I was simply stating the facts, irrelevant of who or what is responsible. You just agreed with those facts as being true, irrelevant of cause, thus have agreed with my point.
You should really stop using ad hom. Testosterone is responsible for male characteristics. It is produced in far greater abundance in males than females. That’s close enough. My only purpose was to highlight facts that could be construed as racist, sexist, etc., but are simply facts, not to give a lecture in medicine. But for the record, causality is a vital part of Special and General Relativity, and plays a key role in investigating various solutions to GR that allow closed time-like curves and/or superluminal travel, and with these things being my specialized interests, I’d say I have a rather good grasp on causality.
So according to you, Black people are completely screwed because no matter how much time has passed, they’re being held down by history. It doesn’t matter what someone does. It’s not their fault if they’re a minority.
>So… you honestly think that there’s “no centuries-old tradition” of violence against those whose sexual orientations don’t conform to the societal view of “normal”.
Are you trying to build a strawman, or are you really that dense?
So… you honestly think that there’s “no centuries-old tradition” of violence against those whose sexual orientations don’t conform to the societal view of “normal”. That’s an actual thing you wrote down and posted in a public place. On purpose.
…Well.
@Cirrus Light
I can’t provide a compelling factual argument
I notice that didn’t actually slow down your wordcount in the slightest, though.
Where can you turn for accurate info, then?
Well, most people usually accept peer-reviewed research from the National Institutes of Health as being fairly authoritative, but I see that your definition of “mileage” appears to be varying quite a bit.
Did you not bother to follow the link about the reasons for those elevated rates of mental illness and suicide attempts? You’re attempting to lay blame for the causation on non-hetero orientations being some kind of inherently inferior condition, which is openly bigoted of you, and frankly disgusting; kids aren’t spiralling into depression and harming themselves because it’s trendy, they’re doing it because society still looks the other way while they’re harassed and bullied and subjected to emotional and physical abuse. You’re blaming the victims for being victimized, and you pretend to be doing “what you can to combat bullying directly”? That certainly seems to be counteracted by your efforts to support and make excuses for bullying indirectly.
It stops being bigotry, prejudice, and discrimination when it’s simple fact
Your grasp of cause and effect is very nearly non-existent; Black people have higher rates of poverty and criminal activity because they have been subject to literally centuries of violence, oppression, and discrimination perpetrated by both the government and the majority populace. That Black people tend to have more robust physiques than White people on average in the New World is the result of a three hundred year long eugenics program designed to produce stronger forced laborers.
Males produce testosterone – a steroid – and women do not
Your grasp of medicine is as poor as your grasp of causation.
>You could argue that you should hold bullies accountable for this
Are the people who are supposedly causing them emotional turmoil even bullies, or are they just people making factual observations? Is calling bullshit on a false claim an unfair attack?
If it is not, then they have no bullies to blame. There is no centuries-old tradition of burning female-identifying bi-romantic grey-asexuals at the stake. No hate group goes out of their way to persecute gender-fluid pansexuals. Their “bullies” are people who say mean things on the internet. Boo-fucking-hoo.
In any case, though, I’m not even really sure what dragged me into this. We both agree that emotional turmoil and suicide are awful. What’s the best course to alleviate the problem?
I’m not so sure that “x-sexuality pride” helps it as much as it makes it a problem for even more people.
But what’s “the problem”? The problem is suicide and emotional turmoil. You could argue that you should hold bullies accountable for this, and not the ones with x-sexuality. While I agree on ethical grounds, I would also point out the question; what matters more: Who’s fault it is, or that it’s happening at all?
If “x-sexuality pride” helps more than hurts, then it’s all moot point and it’s a good thing.
If it hurts more than helps (ie, results in more turmoil and suicide), and all that matters is the pragmatic effect, then it needs to be stopped.
But if it hurts more than helps, but pragmatic effect isn’t the key issue as much as the ethics of “giving in to the bullies,” then despite more suicide, it would be best to push forward.
All-in-all, it’s such a complicated issue that I’m not even sure I want to keep debating it. I only know so many people; I don’t know every person’s story or the absolute truth with a large enough degree of certainty to declare the solution with certainty. I have my beliefs on right and wrong, but as mentioned above, the moral issue is still quiet sticky even despite that.
Fortunately, I’m not in a difficult decision of carrying out any huge policy, all I can do is do what I can to combat bullying directly and provide loving emotional support to those I know, which is perhaps the most important thing anyways.
I’m unsubscribing now. I PMed you an apology.
