Description

Listening to this song and thinking of the alternative interpretations of the big, powerful, mentor-style good guys being the manipulators of the heroes (i.e. Glinda for some) made me think of applying it to MLP, mainly because people have also made that interpretation to Celestia.

You know it’s bad enough we’re still doing this HURR DURR EVUL CELESTIA crap four years into this fandom.

Do you really have to drag RWBY into it too?

When has Celestia ever claimed that it was her victory? Like, this isn’t even drama that makes a degree of sense.

I think Faust was talking about that first incident mostly. Regardless, her actions in episodes one and two only might have been manipulative, but her behavior in MMC definitely was.

From one of Lauren Faust’s deviantArt comments:
I never wanted to define her abilities, even to myself. I wanted her to be mysterious and hard to understand on purpose. There are things she knows, things she has a mere sense for and things she can’t see at all.
I think she knew a certain extent of what would happen regarding the Elements and did her best to fill in the blanks. She’s smart, so she guesses right a lot of the time.
She may have sensed that Twilight was the filly she was looking for, but wasn’t sure. She sent out the egg to see if her hunch was right.
Sure looks to me like people in this thread are unhappy with Celestia being “mysterious and hard to understand”, “guess[ing] right a lot of the time”, and playing a “hunch”.

Odd that we have so much vitriol directed at Lauren Faust’s concepts for the show now that she’s been off of it for a few years…

That phrase was only referring to my observation that Celestia has benevolent intentions. And I was saying that only since 441 was dramatically exaggerating the position of Celestia’s detractors. Obviously she’s not malicious, but that hardly places her above criticism.

Thinking about it i have to question what sunset satan is doing in that picture ? Celestia sure as hell didn’t know her ex student would turn into a raging she-demon

Oh please. Speaking in-universe, Celestia may mean well, but her methods suck, and her personality has shriveled up in recent seasons. She’s basically just an exposition device for Twilight’s elevation.

Alright, fine, Celestia is a nazi, she’s a cruel, heartless tyrant who must be slaughtered by Grand Hero Luna so that she can finally install democracy. If that’s the way you want to play, that’s the way we’re going to play.

She knew good and well what that spell would do, and gave it to Twilight without a single word of warning. She didn’t show a single ounce of surprise that Twilight transformed, and she certainly never implied that Twilight had accomplished the transformation on her own. Make no mistake, everything happened exactly as the Great Princess planned. That was very intentionally foreshadowed in The Crystal Empire.

Have you ever heard of “Dramatic convenience”?

And where is the proof that Celestia wanted Twilight to become an Alicorn? For all that we know, she just wanted Twilight to complete Starswirl’s spellbook.

But of course people are going to interpret that as Celestia being a manipulative bitch, because it doesn’t matter what she does or what she accomplishes, people just want their fucking monster.
