I’d say that everything with Maud did happen. When she was done with Maud’s…woohoo she felt asleep and dreamed this.

And this, is why Trixie puts on the amulet and heads off to Ponyville.

That sounds plausible

I’m guessing this was Trixie’s original motivation to return to Ponyville in the Mauxieverse: to exorcise the demons of her past once and for all. She just happened to make the mistake of wearing the alicorn amulet before she went.
