i saw a show similar to this a couple times when i was younger , had minions who kept saying zaku zaku in it , this the same thing?…..

that’s just it. the Zanbato is unwieldy unless you’re be strong enough to make up for the balance.

That’s hardly fair. Sanosuke could punch through walls and shatter stones with his bare hands. Someone like him would definitely be able to handle a zanbato.
 
We’re talking average, possibly not very well-trained professional soldiers expected to fight as a unit here. Unusually strong soldiers could, of course, be expected to wield them with some amount of skill.
 
But on the other hand if you’re trying to raise an army or fight with one, can you really afford to take picked men out of the ranks and train them with a weapon only they can use, or would you rather train a lot more people with a comparatively easier weapon that can do the job just as well?

the only reasonable individual I can think of that can wield the weapon is Samurai X’s Sanosuke

From what I understand, something like that. Make no mistake, it’s a fine weapon when you’ve got the room and the strength, but considering halberds can stab, chop, hook and slash, they’re much more versatile.

zanbato just was too specialized to use eh?

For those not in the know, a zanbato is generally referred to as a horse-cleaver. It was allegedly a weapon designed to kill both horse and rider with one blow.
 
Of course, there are a lot of people who think such a weapon would’ve been too heavy to wield effectively, and more efficient anti-horse weapons like halberds or even basic spears were more useful.
