Your original comment made it sound as if DuraCoat was terrible. If that’s not the case then I’m sorry.
I didn’t know the AK design was public domain, though; that’s pretty cool! And funnily enough I know a guy on Youtube that did exactly that; he hammered out his own complete AK receiver and is using a surplus parts kit to make the whole rifle himself.
AK-pattern rifles were developed as an internal project of a totalitarian socialist government, and there were no patents or trademarks attached; Izhevsk didn’t get a patent on any part of the design until 1999, to protect their international manufacturing rights. Being 67 years old at this point, the original design is public domain, and in America you could legally build (a semi-auto version of) one out of scrap steel if you wanted.
I’m not sure what makes you think I was slagging on DuraCoat; you’ll get heated arguments about whether it or Cerakote is better for a given application, but they’re both out of my price range so w/e. I’d rather see something a little fancier than an AK if it’s gonna be done up in a Rarity mod, but hey, work with the tools you have; that would still be thematically appropriate, given her decision to pursue fanciness as a lifestyle despite her humble roots.
By far the most hideous standard color scheme on an AK was the basic AK-74, with that horrid honey-colored polymer furniture.

@Eggonaught
Stuffy gun guys are funny; apparently DuraCoat is bad, an AK-pattern rifle is not an AK unless it has the “base color scheme”, and a polymer pistol-grip is “tacky plastic shit”. Even though DuraCoat is extremely useful in shielding your gun from the environment, the color schemes of AK’s has been changing since before the gun was even patented and adopted, and the Russians use polymer furniture on their AK-74M’s.
Maybe it’s a WIP; it wouldn’t be half bad as a full-on art gun DuraCoat recolor.
Not sure if this is a bait account, but I just thought I should mention a lot of stuff is on Derpibooru that includes just a cutie mark.
It has as much to ponies as any other ponified object on the site. Also learn coherent sentences before acting like a rude dick.
