The only reason for the pony toys is Hasbro’s believe that they are easier to sell than their true forms. I’m actually surprised that they allowed them to turn the Dazzlings into flying dragon/lizard creatures and didn’t insists on them being ponies.
That makes pretty good sense, not to mention their pony forms are already depicted on official merch.

So… those were pretty much their stands?
I’m guess those siren are spirits that inhabit those gems and grant what otherwise be ordinary ponies or humans supernatural siren powers.
Not denying the cutness of pony Sonata.
Sonata was still adorable in siren form. (And it wouldn’t be hard for artists to tweak her if they so wish…Or just give her cute things to do.)
I don’t know. It feels kind of like everyone just drawing Chrysalis in a pony form in a way.
Actually, they still retained their human forms even when they released their siren spirits onto the Mane 6. Presumably, they would still be ponies in Equestria if they done that there.
I’ve already read some fancanon where their Equestrian forms turned into ponies after their pendants were destroyed.
Also Sonata pone is fucking adorable.
You can’t exactly run adorably as a giant fish thing.
