Actually, vacuum exposure:  
  1. If you hold your breath, then the pressure differential will build up and cause all the air from your lungs to blow out your mouth, collapsing your lungs possibly.
     
    1b, but, a properly trained astronaut should know not to hold their breath. Let the air out non-explosively and you’ll be fine (or, at least, your lungs won’t collapse so you can be rescued).
     
  2. Your lungs, instead of absorbing oxygen from the air, are outgassing oxygen into the vacuum. Whereas normally it’d take about 45 seconds or more for strangulation to do this, for vacuum exposure it only takes about 10 seconds before you’re no longer conscious enough to do anything useful.
     
  3. By 15 seconds, you’re unconscious.
     
  4. UV radiation from the sun gives your exposed head some nasty sunburns.
     
  5. By 10-45 minutes (not known, varies widely from individual to individual), permanent brain damage from lack of oxygen occurs, and death soon follows.

    But, I’m assuming what’s happened is he landed, saw her living without a spacesuit, was like, “what?” She starts talking. He’s like; “I can hear her voice?…” Then runs a check and discovers a breathable atmosphere magically held against the surface with a scale height of only a few meters, hence the white haze.
     
    So he takes his helmet off safely, and talks to her. Probably starting with; “what’s with this impossible atmosphere!?”
