Non spoiler answer: Basically, it’s called a Behelit. It’s a thing that does things when bad stuff happens.
Spoiler Answer: OK, Behelits are basically a charm of sorts that was crafted for the sole purpose of transforming the holder of them into Demons. They only activate when the holder has experienced an extreme emotional trauma or have had their hopes crushed, and thus feel they are in a horrible situation that they are unable to escape from. And this is the moment when they are summoned before the Godhand: The effective rulers of Demon Kind and of their world, along with the ability to see and influence fate itself. The Godhand present an ultimatum to the holder of the Behelit: Sacrifice someone important and become a demon, thereby getting out of their situation and gaining power unrivaled, or be dragged to hell.
However, there is one exception: The Crimson/Red Behelit (As Pictured Below).
The Red Behelit is a rare one that only appears once every 216 years and is used to turn the holder not just into a Demon, but into a member of the Godhand: Thereby granting them power beyond a normal demon and giving them the ability to influence fate and see the truth of the universe.
However, conditions are a bit more…specific for Godhand ascension.
First, a Crimson Behelit isn’t held by just anyone. It has to be held by someone of influence, someone with ambition and someone who commands the respect and loyalty of a LARGE number of people. Second, the sacrifice doesn’t have to be a loved one: They just have to sacrifice a number of people loyal and devoted to them and become a member of the Godhand.
The conditions for it’s activation remain the same however: The holder has to experience severe mental and/or emotional trauma and be in a situation they feel utterly hopeless in or feel unable to escape.
Translation: Celestia Makes Twilights life hell, that will cause the Behelit to activate…and then Twilight is a fate influencing archdemon.
