The problems concerning age I just assumed has something to do with time being different in the human world and Equestria or the metaphysics of the two worlds in relation to each other being kind of wonky.
There’s one a of two possibilities: either pony Celestias’s reign corresponds to human Celestia’s tenure as principal(and would suggest ponies live longer than humans if the humans of Equestria Girls don’t have lifespans any different from humans in the real world), meaning that a few years of time for humans in high school relates to a generation of ponies or the time between the two worlds have absolutely no relation and Sunset Shimmer’s human self is just what she would look like in that world, ignoring her being a decade older than the mane six.
