I… actually like the older version better. I mean, those “nostrils” are just little pinpricks. they kind of throw the rest of the image off, imo.

while the hair is by far the most detailed part, imo, event he rest of it is immaculately done.
the eyes are absolutely beautiful, the shading on her face/the rest of her is perfect, the sense of depth/perspective is unparalleled (as other commenters have stated, it really does look kind of 3d) the lighting/shadows are great, and hell, even the glare on her cup/eyes is really well done!
not very many artist can even come close to this kind of overall detail/quality.

I get that, but quite a few artists have done that. It’s detailed also basically only in the hair though. I don’t see much done with the fur, wings(not nearly to the same extent), or the scarf.
I’m not saying it’s bad or anything. I’m just saying it doesn’t seem like 4 digit upvotes good.
Also that bun kinda makes her look like a mature (in terms of responsibility) young MILF, as if she’s a single mom with a five year old son and a high paying career.
I’m imagining she’s not in a Starbucks but a hipster coffee house in Seattle, her son goes to a privet school but she never brags about him. Stallions are always checking her out even when with her son but she just gives’em a flick of her tail from a distance cuz when she’s ready for another special some pony SHE’LL be checkin THEM out. Oh oh, and she drives a roadster (her only car) cuz she thinks: “what the hell do I need a mini van for it’s just my son and I,” and her friends are a fashionista like Rarity, a chemical engineer like Twilight, a cellist like Tavi, and a . . . holy shit I should just write a fanfic about this image.
