@Frogster
τ=2π, therefore if something says “2π”, it can more easily say just “τ”
@Frogster
and what about all the times you need to double it? are we going to just ignore that? I’m not saying that we need to get rid of π, just to understand τ
I still think pi is much more useful. To have to divide with 2 every time you need pi is stupid since division is much more intensive than multiplication.
A very small number of people regard 2π as a more fundamental quantity than π and wish to get people to use the Greek letter τ for it.
To which I say, meh.
Thank you. I know what Tau is. What does it have to do with this chalkboard.
Tau is the circumference of a circle divided by its radius, and is argued as being more efficient and Pi in many circumstances because pi is very often seen as 2π in formulas

What τ symbol?
you do realize that τ is the symbol for 2π?
The math on this blackboard is not important. It was one in a sequence of rapid-fire gags. In fact an accurate and content-containing equation could well have been visually inappropriate for the scene, being too small in font to be grasped as math, as quickly as the scene required.
Furthermore, I agree with the other posters that Apple Bloom may well have been suffering from, essentially, acquired ADHD, jumping from task to task and not completing anything. If I were trying to write math on a blackboard while spinning plates, hula hooping, and tap-dancing, you probably wouldn’t get anything more legible than “N=0” out of me, either.
Second, I would be rather surprised if cutie pox actually provides you with any new knowledge – Apple Bloom already knew how to loop-de-hoop, and maybe knew a little about those other things as well. (The CMC tried hang-gliding, for instance.) Which would explain why an attempt to write down math became a string of math-like symbols.
Finally, if you don’t like either of those explanations, it’s not like cutie pox can create a chalkboard. Maybe she came across one that already had some math symbols on it (some one was explaining the ideas connecting sums and integrations), suddenly acquired a “math” cutie mark, and just wrote down the “N=0” line.
I do really wish we’d seen the math cutie mark though. :^)
Such hypocrisy.
I suspect that the gibberish math was intentional, showing Apple Bloom’s mind struggling to obey the compulsion to write out something from the barely-understood concepts that had suddenly flooded her mind. There are probably bits and pieces of a half-dozen different equations there.
I don’t think so - the show’s writers aren’t anywhere near as petty as you. They don’t mock people for being interested in/good at something as “math freaks” - nor are they incapable of distinguishing between other people having talents/being good at something, and being an egotist.
I feel the need to remind you that everything in the universe is not a personal attack designed to make you look bad: the world does not revolve around you.
Speaking of complexes - tearing down other people is one of the archetypal defense mechanisms against insecurity; you couldn’t have screamed out “I feel inadequate!” more clearly if you tried. Sorry, mate, but we’re not going to go out of our way to lower and degrade ourselves just to make you feel better about your ineptitude.
The only complicated part of these formulas is the integral. The Σ (Sigma) sign just means to take the sum of whatever follows the sign while l loops from 0 until infinity. So Σ(l) l = 1 to 3) would = 6. The rest is just regular math.
i have to agree with the “superiority complex” bit,
so many people fucking leap to the chance to show off their maths skills and if you admit you do not know what the fuck all these scribbles mean they treat you like a brain dead retard.
oops i meant “= 4472^12”
Okay, slow down for just a second and think…
Maybe the show staff did all that on purpose, just to annoy the math freaks and their oh so fucking precious superiority complex? Such as you.
“Repeat to yourself: ‘it’s just a show, I should really just relax.’”
if they had dropped in something like 398712+436512=7742^12 that would be a nice homage to the simpsons :D
Then we have AL (x)/2pi… whatever the fuck that means… a sqrt(x^3) out of fucking nowhere… and from all that nonsense, she somehow gets the idea that N=0… somehow.
… Applebloom, what was in that brew, and where can I get some?
(2*pi)
It could be sum(Al(x)/2*pi)
what was said here was that the full positive integral of something, possibly the sum of no function with a variable of all positive numbers, then Aₗ(x)÷τ, √x³, and N=0… no actual math
