Yeah, but once that shield came down, the changelings took the city is minutes. They guards were on full alert and this was their chance to finally step up for their homeland. And they collapsed quicker than a house of cards. Strategically, the changelings won by all counts, and only lost because of a magical repulsion spell.
 
And yeah, okay, maybe ‘fresh conscripts’ is not the best term, I concede that. I’m aware they were thousands of these shapshifters with a plan, but we don’t know how much training they had. For all we know, the changelings soldiers could’ve been fresh off out of training, which would’ve been even more humiliating for the ponies, although it is speculative due to our limited knowledge of the species.

Shining Armors shield held the whole changeling army in its place and the only reason they could get through was due to Chrysalis hypnotizing SA.
 
Also, fresh conscripts? What are you talking about? There were literally thousands of them, each one a shapeshifter, all battleready and with a careful plan created by Chrysalis. And despite all the odds, they lost.

The potion must be wearing off. He’s managed to raise his neck slightly :)

This is more accurate to the show than any changeling fanfic could ever be. They love portraying Shining and the ‘Royal Guard’ as these hyper-competent, ruthless Gestapo (especially when it’s an Apologist fic), but really, they’re all as useless as a chocolate teapot.
 
I mean, c’mon people, it took the Changeling Invasion Army, many of them likely fresh conscripts, less than five minutes to take the capitol when the ponies were on full alert knowing of a threat against them. That’s pretty damn embarrassing.
