Chill, I only used it descriptively.
Every time I see someone mention those 2 words on any picture with Flash Sentry I just get the urge to break something. I’m not even kidding. That phrase is not funny, it’s just really annoying.
_*I think the “waifu thief” was mostly all the factors for the backlash.
He’s also male. That may or may not be an additional factor.
Now, I’m not completely a fan of Flash, but he does need more love.
I mean look at Derpy, she does absolutly nothing but mostly cause trouble for other ponies and people love her just because she’s cute. (It’s true)
Flash is a Royal Guard that does his duty along side others to protect the Crystal Empire and yet people hate him for no reason other than just being there.
Where’s the logic in hating a character you don’t even know about?
I would agree he wasn’t absolutely essential to the plot, but I still found him to be likeable and an asset to the movie in general.

I found him bland and superfluous to the story, but I didn’t mind him. I hope to see him some more.
