I believe that some people think a cutie mark is only on one side of the body,I myself am not sure(the only reason there on both in the show is cause they mirror characters instead of making a left and right side)

According to the artist, they’re supposed to be at this weird kind of age when they’re sort of teenagers, but young enough not to have cutie marks. Or something.
