To be fair, every alicorn other than Twilight has probably been too busy with their royal duties to help with the farming, and “Twilight spends half an hour planting a bunch of seeds” probably wouldn’t make for spectacular television.
 
AJ: “Um, Twi? Why’re you keepin’ our dirt?”  
TS: “I’m taking soil samples! By measuring the minerals in blah blah blah science stuff I can’t be bothered to look up but Twilight would probably know yada yada keep track of etcetera etcetera overall health and fertility of your fields and crops! Isn’t it exciting?”  
AJ: “That’s, uh, one word somepony might use for it…”
