I actually do find normal to be a terrible thing. I like standing out from the crowd as I find the crowd as to what people refer to as “Normal” to be annoying and boring.
So yes, I like to stand out in some way.
As for that character, I wouldn’t call that so generic as it’s the mane style that really drives a character from generic or not.
However, the majority of OCs are basically a generic character because they use a mane style already implemented in the show itself, only recoloured, therefore making it generic.
Now, I could have made a full blood pony with some sort of mane style to stand out, but when it comes to hair/mane styles, I lack the creativity of it all. Anything I could think of was too similar or already in use.
At some point, anyone who creates a pony OC will just be a recolour of someone else’s OC, if not, just a combo of 2 OC’s mane/tail.
The fact I could not pick one mane style only means that at some point, if I did, I would grow to not like my OC any longer so I made it into something I could like from the start.
I put my favourite animal with it and have never regretted it, even when people put it down for being different.
As for it looking like a fox. Remove the tail, it looked just like any other pony. It’s the markings on it that resemble the same markings of a fox that make it look like one but other than that, it’s still pony.
Repaint those black markings orange like her fur and you don’t even notice.
Markings aren’t what makes a fox, a fox.

Bat ponies are canon. I’m aware.
Fish ponies aren’t really much a thing in my experience, but I suspect you might mean seaponies, which half are (thanks for G1 and an officially licensed FiM book). I don’t like them, but I begrudgingly accept their existence for the most part.

As a matter of fact, you’re right. I feel offended that you’d call a perfectly decent character like >>630410 “just some generic character” and feel the need to promote yourself by representation as some fox-horse hybrid abomination. You decided to make yourself look totally out of place and stand out among “generic characters”–as if you’re the most important person in any crowd, and looking normal would demean you.
It’s showing a self importance and disregard for standards that suggest acting out solely for attention, regardless of consequences: it’s attention mongering and drama whoring.

That, and the fox tail getting hugged by something that almost looks like a fox but has no fox nose creeps me out.

I think he blames furries for the fact that they crossbreed things together, like the fact that I crossbred my favourite animal with a pony to make my own OC that wasn’t just some generic character.
