I think everyone would agree that Godzilla, the Mutos and Cranston are the best part of the movie.
 
If Serizawa was the main character instead of Ford, I’d think the wait for the monster scenes would be more tolerable, since he is the one actively studying Godzilla, and has a history with him. Ford, on the other hand, has little bearing on the plot aside from the fact he is there, is not very interesting, and he makes the wait more of a chore. Jaws and Alien worked because they had likable characters in interesting situations. Ford has neither of these going for him.
 
I suppose the one thing about the film is that it leaves you wanting more. Whether or not that’s a good thing is debatable. The fight scenes is shear amazing, and the very ending may leave a tear in your eye, but it can be a slog waiting through everything that isn’t CG. It pretty much is just a regular Godzilla movie, only with a huge budget.
 
There is a sequel on the way, and i’m hoping they give Godzilla more screentime, or at least refrain from skipping to the aftermath after he makes his entrance (although he’ll have to deal with more monsters). I don’t think Ford and his family need to be in it, since their story arc is complete. (Apparently, the reason they killed off Joe was because, outside of the Muto conspiracy, there was nothing for him to do.)

This movie, you either really love it or really hate it.

Well, if that’s the case, then they could’ve made the human characters a lot more interesting then. or at least just have Bryan Cranston be the main human character.

Fun fact: A lot of Godzilla movies barely had Godzilla in them. Hell, the first movie barely had him show up until 40 minutes in. If anything, the new movie followed the basic structure of a Godzilla film.

Twizilla surprisingly has very little Twizilla.
