Both times I’ve drawn the main characters of My Little Maniraptor I’ve found Fluttershy the hardest to get right, and I fear I’m still least pleased with what I’ve done with her out of this batch.*

*This referred to the original pencil drawing. I’m reasonably satisfied with the digital update.

Either way, maniraptor!Fluttershy is a basal troodont, which fits well with her being a comparatively weak flier. (The most basal possible troodont known, Anchiornis, though it had fairly large wings, was probably very poor aerodynamically, if it could glide at all.) I’ve read on TV Tropes that the original Fluttershy is also the only pony who flaps her wings while running, which in My Little Maniraptor I’d translate to her instinctively preferring to use WAIR (Wing-Assisted Incline Running) rather than flight to escape danger. Her bashful pose in the original My Little Maniraptor also allows a homage to the sleeping position that some basal troodonts have been found in. Maniraptor!Fluttershy is the most extensively feathered of the main characters, with feathered toes based on Anchiornis.

Here Fluttershy gives Angel a rare treat, live prey. This brings up the question of how the maniraptors in My Little Maniraptor deal with carnivore confusion, given that in the original show most animals, even those that can’t talk or have access to the same technology as ponies, appear to be at least as intelligent as the ponies, or at least possess a higher level of sapience than they do in real life. I think most maniraptors, being predators themselves (unlike ponies), may simply treat it as the whole circle of life deal, but that might be different to a friend to all living things like Fluttershy (which might make her rampage in “The Best Night Ever” where the original Fluttershy grabs a squirrel in her mouth a little more or less disturbing, depending on how you look at it). I can imagine that Fluttershy prefers to eat plants (which she can do thanks to being a troodont), and whatever meat she does eat (or feeds to her animals) is scavenged. (There are probably market stands in town run by maniraptors who collect carcasses in the wild and prepare them to be sold at a cheaper price than fresh meat, a valuable option for maniraptors, especially obligate carnivore species, that want to follow their equivalent of “going ‘vegetarian’”.) The closest time the original show has come to addressing this is when Fluttershy is shown feeding worms and fish to other animals with what can be interpreted as a “it’s unpleasant but it must be done” expression on her face. It’s not clear whether the worms and fish were killed to serve as food for the other animals or were already dead to begin with. Not that I expect the show to actually go into that.

Also of note is that the ponies in the original show don’t farm other animals for meat (of course), but that may be different with maniraptors, which raises the question of why the farmed animals haven’t rebelled. My guess is that all the farmed animals have alternative benefits to maniraptors other than meat, and those are the primary reason they are farmed. The maniraptors only cull those that are incurably ill or disabled, and still get most of their meat from the wild, with some individuals making a living by going out to hunt and supplying the town with fresh meat. In addition, the farmed animals are mostly species that would have trouble surviving in the local wilds without care, giving them an incentive to stay.

Angel is a lagerpetonid, for obvious reasons. I was going to make him a mammal, but a type of animal with rabbit right in its name was too good to pass up.
