Except the fight between Optimus and Megatron was far more brutal and you could really tell both fighters were trying to kill each other.

The diference is that Optimus and Megatron are the same size, while Twilight is outsided. But in terms of power and fighting Spirit, I see the similarity.

Well, for starters, both are Hasbro characters.
The fighters are in a secluded area away from the main civilization.
The bad guy is powered up. Tirek from all of the stolen magic, and Megatron with his dark energon. Both Twilight and Optimus gave it their all, and seemed to be winning at first, until the villain pulled a trump card. Tirek holding the rest of the Mane 6 hostage, and Megatron getting his second wind from a nearby Dark Energon eruption.
The hero eventually triumphs with help from the rest of his/her friends. Twilight, with Discord giving her the last key and her friends activating the rainbow power. Optimus’ case was Arcee and Bulkhead rescuing him from Megatron’s clutches.
