EXACTLY! The villains for the most part are not overly one dimensional and well written. Its why I fell in love with the show to begin with haha XD I have high hopes for Tirek though, can’t wait to see how they do with him.

I agree. I think it’s pretty neat that the antagonists take a wide spectrum of places on the power and motivational scale. Heck, I’ve heard people claim that Chrysalis isn’t actually evil because her primary motivation is the survival and prosperity of her own people.  
It’s a sign of good writing that fans are inspired to have arguments like this.

I forgot about their second appearance, I actually completely forgot about that episode as a whole and was talking about the cider episode XD THAT one is much more blatantly forward for sure.

Well, lying about the effects of medication is extremely illegal. They would be completely bankrupted by the lawsuits alone in real life, to say nothing of the FDA investigation.

Nightmare Moon was a wonderful villain when you look at things in perspective… I mean, Night Eternal? Thats pretty much subjecting the planet to a slow, dark, death through freezing to the point that when she would realize it then it would probably be to late. Even if for some reason they managed to survive the cold, food would probably become an problem.
 
Nightmare Moon is a villain of Pride and Vanity, wanting to have all eyes on her to hell with the consequences. Brash, Greedy, Prideful, and vain. I say she has many of the characteristics of a good villain in a much more passive way than Tirek or Sombra who seem far more straight forward.
 
I mean, honestly I think one of the best villains still is Flim and Flam because they are villains but not in an outright evil way. They represent corruption and greed but never REALLY do anything that would classify as evil or wrong. Morally they are corrupt and through that corruption their greed drives them regardless of who gets hurt. They are not in the wrong, but what they do leads to the suffering of others. They work within the system yet use it for their profit in a way that is cold and mechanical almost while keeping up good PR for those not in the path of their greedy hooves.
 
A good villain does not have to be forward and go around stealing souls, a good villain can be very passive, manipulative, straight forward, or some times not even truly be considered evil.
 
TL;DR – Villains come in all shapes, sizes, and motives. Just because they don’t steal souls or come outright with their plans does not mean they are a sub par villain.

If you’re going to kill someone it cost nothing to be polite.

Chrysalis was, until now, the closest thing FiM had to a G1 villain. Discord was never a threat and NMM was a bad Sailor Moon villain ripoff.

At least she had an awesome song to back it up. Plus she went and shot down the nation’s ruler. That’s pretty badass.

Sombra couldn’t do more than grunt and scream, he was fail as a villain.

Well you do have a point, but Sombra would tell you his life story while you dug for crystals in chains.

Sombra was more a shadow of himself than a pony really. Perhaps he wasn’t capable.

“Hey! I’m villain. Not a monster. Harumph.”

Sombra was a man of action, not words.

I think that’s because Sombra only knew how to say like, two things.

I’m sure he’s a fine old chap when he’s not stealing souls.
