You’re singing the wrong song.
No, just no.
Edited
I find those two words to be quite hilarious because, well…Robin Williams puts it best.
Wow. I learn something new every day! Thanks for sharing that.
That right there is fremdschämen at work.
You know the German word “schadenfreude”, right? Feeling pleasure at someones misfortune?
Well, once again, the Germans have a word for every occasion; fremdschämen is essentially vicarious embarrassment.
I figure everyone has something that makes them uncomfortable. Something they don’t like, some way they don’t like to be treated. It’s better to simply assume that not everyone is going to like everything, or feel the same way you do.
The reaction just happens without being conscious of it. It’s like something funny happening and then laughing at it. It just happens. Laughter isn’t an overreaction. It’s more a matter of what different people find funny, just like how some folks find different things uncomfortable. I expect people to be different that way. Does that make sense?
It’s like, when you do find yourself in a situation that makes you uncomfortable, there are inevitably going to be others that totally don’t understand what’s bothering you.
Yeah, I’ve noticed more people are sensitive with what happens to Spike more than any other character it seems. Not sure if it’s because so many can really relate to him or because he’s so young, etc.
It can be fun to put yourself in a character’s shoes and all. But just don’t put yourself too far into them.
No u
Suck it.
I think it has to do with putting yourself in the character’s shoes. If you really relate to a character (and Spike is one of my favorites in the show), it’s possible to feel vicariously the same things he’s shown going through.
I found the scene almost unwatchable at first, but looking back on it, I really have to hand it to Polsky. It’s a sign of a really good writer that they can engage your emotions that strongly.
It’s funny, really. I can tolerate stuff like HTF [hell, most of the time I just have no reaction at all] but it’s awkward moments and [like mentioned below] cringe comedy that I just can’t stand.
I see it. I just can’t comprehend the feeling being made so uncomfortable by a scene from a cartoon that I’d feel the need to mute it.
I just feel it’s all a bit of an over-reaction. But this is coming from someone who actually enjoys watching Happy Tree Friends and all that.
Read the thread, laddie.
Finally! Somebody else who laughed at this scene and Pinkie!
I seriously don’t get all the fuss over this scene at all.
The Nailed it at the end, perfect. I love when Pinkie has a goofy happy expression when nopony else has one, she takes nothing seriously. Its one of the reasons why I love her.
Well, the arbiter of comedy has spoken.
Oh totally.
Yeah. Some folks’ tolerance for cringe comedy are really different. Though I’m sure you can totally see now why some people had a big issue with it, and why some didn’t. :)
I don’t know what to tell you…‘cause I think it’s hi-larious. It’s why Watamote is one of my favorite anime of all time. But I’m somewhat of a schadenfreude person. Though with all comedy timing is key, no matter if it’s clean, dark, gallows, black, blue, cringe, insult, etc.
@ArrJaySketch
I’m certainly not telling people they are to laugh with me, but I rarely if ever get embarrassed or uncomfortable. And if
I do, it dissipates so quickly within the day so I guess I use cringe comedy to feel others misfortune even though I still laugh at said misfortune. I thought the whole anthem scene was built up a good minute before he started so you could see that what we were in for but I guess even then it doesn’t soften the blow. I laughed first viewing, BTW.
