Closing prices on eBay have generally been in the $80-$120 range, last I checked a few weeks ago. The only ones offered for over $200 were ones signed by Lauren Faust.

In theory, there was. In practice, some people found a way around it, whether it was by getting multiple people to pick up individual ponies at SDCC, or by using multiple accounts & mailing addresses during the brief time they were available online.
This is exactly why they should have been a limit of ONE per person.

Hardly. Only if you’re extremely lucky, but otherwise eBay is full of these at $300+ average.
