Psh. There are more than a few episodes proper of FIM that are worse than EqG.

There’s no comparison. They’re literally completely different in almost every way. Different style, art, composition, plot, animation, story.
 
Only things they have similar is maybe one or two voice actors.

@Itsthinking I don’t think it’s possible to lower my expectations enough to enjoy EqG. That was some godawful ridic 3.5 webisode level shit and I will hate Meggles til I die for it
 
@Itsthinking They have too much competition to simply be cheap moldy crap. And the dollar has gotten too fucked for 80s-quality shooty-movy-posey toys to work. So yeah, normal toys are boned until execs figure out they need to be anal about quality and ability and how many different things toys should do and start those collectors young.  
Basically, toy companies need to Philip Morris this shit. Make the con and current ‘collectible’ figures the baseline, at least for those you stamp with your own personal logo and not just ‘licensed from/by.’ At least their plushes from the Funrise partnership have been alright. Nice and soft too. The basic toys are still pap though, except for Gilda.

Pre-Core 7 G3 had some really good bits and some meh bits. It’s once it got into Core 7 and, beyond that, into G3.5, that the true horror sets in. But early G3 was not that bad.

G4 isn’t about toys, it’s about the franchise in general, with the show of absolute importance. Hasbro’s trying to be less of a toy company and more an entertainment one, since traditional toys are slowly dying, at least in the way they’ve been making/marketing them.

Minty Christmas and Two for the sky were pretty good. Better than any Williams epsidoe except for Hearths Warming Eve and Bats

Well, G1 had Friends and Tales. In MLP FRIENDS, they had villains like evil magical penguin king who wants to freeze the world. In Tales they had elementary girls babysitting, doing their hair, and etc. G2 was left in the dust. G3 was a pink world with pink plastic horses. But their toys were better than G4`s.

A Very Minty Christmas is better than Mare Do Well, I’ll throw that out there.
