True dat.
If you can’t overanalyze a children’s cartoon, what can you overanalyze?
Don’t worry, I wasn’t even being entirely serious. I sort of went in making fun of people who overanalyze this show, then ended up totally overanalyzing it myself because admittedly it is kind of fun.
Actually I drew this a few months ago, but only just now posted it, so that’s why it’s so late. The Lunar month thing sounds cool though
Good call.
Remember that they measure time in lunar months, as seen in “ Equestria Girls” and “Apple Family Reunion”.
Maybe it is Equestria’s new year. Who says they use the same calendar as us?
In the spirit of overanalyzing a children’s cartoon, the odds that Equestrians use the Gregorian Calendar (ours) are slim to none because it is a solar calendar, meaning it is based on the movement of the earth around the sun. Even if they did, it wouldn’t be the exact same as ours.
Since Equestria works in reverse, that is they have conscious control over the solar and lunar cycles, the calendar would have been invented first and the solar/lunar cycles adapted to suit said calendar (Unlike our calendar which was invented and matched to the solar cycle). It’s safe to assume it would be far more pattern based than 365 days divided unevenly amid 12 months with a leap year every four days to accommodate the 1/4 day extra amount of time per year.
Even in it’s most similar incarnation, it would likely be a 30 day per month, 12 month calendar, adding up to a 360 day year.
My conclusion is that I looked way too deeply into this. Also, the odds of them picking the exact same day as us for their new year is infinitesimally small.
